People have had more time to be at home during 2020, and maybe with limited possibilities to travel, many have started to plana move overseas. Perhaps safety, work and study opportunities were high priorities when they searched Google for potential destinations. Only a few countries renowned as vacation destinations made it to the top 10.
Remitly, a money transfer enterprise, studied Google searches for keywords “how to move abroad” from January 2020 to October 2020. Globally, there was an increase of 29% increase in theses searches. The company included Google searches from 101 countries in a report.
These are the top 10 countries where people globally were interested in moving in 2020.
In 30 countries, Canada was the most popular destination. Japan was the most attractive country in 13 countries, Spain in 12, Germany in 8, Qatar in 6, Australia in 5, Switzerland in 4, Portugal in 3, USA in 2 and UK in 2 countries.
The report also categorised searches by continent so we can see search differences between people in Europe, America, Asia and Oceanic countries. For instance, in Europe seem to favor other European countries when they think about emigration. Northern Europeans are thinking of South Europe, Eastern Europeans see Germany as an attractive country, and others consider their neighbor country to be a better place to live than their own country. Canada, Japan and USA are the countries outside Europe that interest some Europeans.
